Football team and toddler go down with swine flu

A FOOTBALL team and a toddler are recovering after catching swine flu following their annual presentation evening.

Half of the Ruislip Rovers team are at home recovering from the virus after catching it at the presentation night held at Ruislip Golf Club, in Ickenham Road, Ruislip, on Saturday (11).

Two-year-old Joseph Morris is also still recovering along with at least seven other friends and family members of the team.

Steve Long, 27, of Royal Crescent, South Ruislip, is the co manager of the team and he started feeling the symptoms on Sunday. He found out the following day that seven of his team mates had also contracted it.

He said: "I didn't feel to clever on Sunday. It might have had something to do with the drink but it was different to a hang over.

"I got a really bad headache and was aching from head to toe. I had a bit of a cough as well and I got diarrhoea. At night I have been sweating a lot as well. I was waking up and the bed was drenched. It's really taken it out of me.

"I've had normally flu once before but that only affected me for two days and I was back up and running, but I have been out the whole week with this in bed.

"I only really started moving again yesterday but I'm nearly over the worst of it now. I still feel a bit week ad drained and I've still got a cough. The doctor says it takes about 10 days to get over it. It's as bad as people say it is though.

"I've been put on antibiotics but some of my mates are on Tamiflu.

"My nephew, Joseph, seemed to be okay yesterday but today he's not feeling too clever. His temperature was above 40 at the start of the week and he had a cough and diarrhoea as well. His temperature is coming down a bit now.

"I think at least 15 to 20 people got it at the presentation evening.

"One of the players knew Chloe Buckley as well. He was quite close to her so we are going to hold a fundraising event in December to raise money for the family."
