Community spirit still high at fun day despite weather
AWFUL weather put a bit of a dampener on the usual celebrations at the Christmas Fun Day in Ruislip Manor at the weekend but the community spirit was still high.
Children's rides, a Santa's grotto, face painting, a magician, street dancing, live music, a tombola, a fancy dress competition, stalls and much more filled Victoria Road on Saturday (14).
The Christmas lights, which this year go as far as the roundabout and Pembroke Road, were switched on by the Mayor of Hillingdon, Councillor Shirley Harper-O'Neill.
Les Drussel, chairman of Ruislip Manor Chamber of Commerce, who organise the annual event, said: "In between the showers people came out to see it, but there weren't as many as we usually get because the weather really was horrendous. We lost six of our gazebos because of the wind.
"We had a couple of thousand people and last year we had about 6,000. There was a lot of community spirit though."
Taylor Wimpey developers sponsored the event.
