WINNERS of an annual peace poster competition had their work displayed at a library.

Pupils from six schools across Ruislip participated in the competition, which was organised by Ruislip Lions Club.

The winning posters from each school were displayed at an exhibition in Ruislip Manor Library, in Linden Avenue, on Saturday (14).

The event was attended by the Mayor of Hillingdon, Councillor Shirley Harper-O'Neill, who spoke to some of the pupils.

The theme of this year's competition was "The Power of Peace" and students aged 11, 12 and 13 were able to participate.

To add a little spice to this year's competition Ruislip Lions offered prizes for the best art department who submitted the best winning entries.

This was judged by the Society of Ruislip Artists who nominated Bishop Ramsey School, in Hume Way, as the winner, with the runner up being Field End School, in Field End Road.

The other schools who participated were Bishop Winnington Ingram, Sacred Heart, Douay Martyrs and Ruislip High.

The winners received cheques to purchase art materials for their own school art departments.

Geoff Brown, youth chairman of Ruislip Lions, said: "This is one of the many youth programmes we are trying to promote in the Ruislip area, and we are looking forward to continuing working with local schools in the not too distant future."

All winners will now go through to the next stage of the competition which is a district final.

We'd like to hear from you.
