The Six Bells finally opens with new look

AN ARCHAIC community pub which has been closed for some time has been brought back to life by a new licensee.

Mark Cooper, 44, reopened The Six Bells, in Ducks Hill Road, Ruislip, as Café @ The Six Bells yesterday (9), after it closed in October last year following a fire.

The father-of-four, who has owned two pubs in Croxley Green for about four years, has spent six months refurbishing it.

He said: "The pub was totally neglected and before it closed it had the wrong sort of clientèle.

"It was on its knees so I decided to take it on because I like a challenge and I wanted to bring it back to life. I wanted to make it look right and give it the class it deserves.

"It was also a fantastic business opportunity."

Mr Cooper has kept the original features of the pub, which is owned by Pub Taverns, but has given it a more contemporary feel and he is completely confident that it will do well.

He said: "I have taken a very modern approach to it to get the best out of a pub that is very special to the community.

"I'm confident it will do well because of my knowledge of people and what they want.

"I have been in the pub business for about 25 years and my whole life has been involved around looking after people. When you have done it for that long you start to learn what makes people happy.

"I'm also a very positive thinker."

His aim is to create a relaxing atmosphere that will attract families with children to business people and weekend drinkers.

He said: "The ambience I have created is very relaxed and secure.

"Everyone is welcome but I have a zero tolerance to people who don't conduct themselves in the right manner."

A spokesperson from Punch Taverns said: "We are delighted to confirm that The Six Bells is open once again with a fantastic licensee, Mark Cooper, at the helm.

"Mark has our full support in building a successful, sustainable business that is a credit to the community."

The pub serves food and is also open from 10am to noon everyday for breakfast.

It closes at 11.30pm Monday to Wednesday, 12.30am on Thursdays, 1am on Friday and Saturday nights and 10.30pm on Sundays.

It is also closed to anyone under 21 after 8pm.

We'd like to hear from you.

Showed up here on a very quiet Sunday lunchtime with my dog after a walk around the Ruislip Lido. I was happy to see the Children and Dogs allowed before 8pm sign, and wandered in. We were served at the bar and ordered food, only to be told after ordering that because someone dining in the room didn't like dogs, they'd have to ask us to leave.

My dog has certainly never offended anyone in the past, and has been welcomed around london in dogs-allowed pubs before. There was no suggestion that he caused any problems, apart from perhaps wagging his tail too much.

In short - rude staff and aloof landlord on a quiet day.

Thought we'd tried the cafe@the 6 bells one weekday afternoon with our kids. There's no cafe about it, its a pub. There was no high chairs for the kids so I assume the pub wants to attract families with older kids who can play outside. The 1 year got a bit upset in there and we were told rudely to leave as it wasn't a creche. We wouldn't recommend this for families, maybe for someone whose looking for a quiet drink as it was empty in there when we arrived and when we left.

certainly NOT family friendly in my experience either. and no customers in there at the time. Sour faced staff and a landlord who thinks he is in eastenders not ruislip! SUPPORT OTHER LOCAL BUSINESSES WHO VALUE YOUR CUSTOM.

The toilets were filthy when I went there for lunch and the staff were moody. I would not recommend it to anyone

Stopped in for lunch recently, found the staff to be extremely rude. Like other people who have posted here, the landlord came across as unbelievably arrogant and aloof.

Keep well clear of this place. Ruislip does not need people or establishments like this. Take your custom elsewhere, The Six Bells clearly doesn't want or deserve your business.
