Head and staff at Bishop Ramsey chosen for top role supporting struggling schools

THE headteacher and staff at Bishop Ramsey C of E School in Ruislip have been chosen for a top role supporting schools in challenging circumstances.

Andrew Wilcock has become one of 75 headteachers across the country to be selected as a National Leader of Education (NLE).

NLEs use their success and professionalism as school leaders, together with staff at the school - designated a National Support School - to provide assistance in struggling schools.

The role involves helping to raise existing standards and when necessary, stepping in as acting headteacher.

It is part of the latest recruitment round by the National College for Leadership of Schools and Children's Services, with almost 400 headteachers having now received the prestigious title. Up to half a million children are believed to have benefitted from the scheme.

Mr Wilcock said: "I feel honoured to be selected - the recognition of Bishop Ramsey as a National Support School reflects the hard work many colleagues at the school have already done in supporting other schools.

"It will give us the opportunity to continue this work on a wider stage and will also bring benefits to our own students in the schools we support."

Toby Salt, deputy chief executive of the National College, added: "The scheme is about great headteachers and their teams helping others and making a big difference.

"Many schools see improvements in exam results, with progress achieved in excess of national improvements."
