Union Jack flag waving web.jpgROYALISTS in Ruislip and Eastcote are gearing up for a bumper four-day weekend to celebrate The Queen's 60th year.

Nearly half of Hillingdon borough's 102 street parties are happening in Ruislip and Eastcote, while there are plenty of other events to look forward to as well.

More than two miles of bunting has gone up all the way along both Ruislip High Street and the main shopping thoroughfare in Ruislip Manor, Victoria Road, in time for the celebrations.

Many residents have also opted to fly Union Jacks outside their homes.

Although the weather is forecast to be dry for the start of the weekend, temperatures will drop to the mid-teens, a lot cooler than in the last week.

Explaining why he approved a bid by Ruislip Manor Chamber of Commerce to spend £3,800 of Manor's £15,000 ward budget on bunting, Councillor Douglas Mills (Manor, Con), told the Gazette: "I think we should be celebrating that our monarch has reached
60 years on the throne.

"This is the right use of public money."

Ruislip Chamber of Commerce has also put up 2,000 metres of bunting on High Street, although Wendy Hobday said it only cost £1.99 for every 10 metres.

Eastcote Residents Association said it had opted not to erect bunting on Field End Road because of a lack of time and resources.

Overall there will be 44 street parties taking place across Ruislip and Eastcote and the full list is below.

Elsewhere, there will be picnic - sponsored by tinned pork meat brand Spam - at Eastcote House Gardens on Saturday from 12pm to 4pm.

On the Monday there is an evening barbecue at Ruislip Social Club in Grosvenor Vale, and on Tuesday the Royal British Legion in Southbourne Gardens is hosting a party between 12pm and 3pm.

The celebrations are even continuing beyond the bank holiday weekend, as on Wednesday there will be a tea party at Ruislip Manor Library in Linden Avenue, between 2pm and 4pm.
