Tree trouble for Eastcote motorists
TREES toppled last week as high winds buffeted the borough.
Hillingdon Council confirmed there were around 30 trees or parts of trees that have been or are in the process of being cleared by its contractors since Friday.
Probably none more costly than in Cardinal Road, Eastcote, where John Quille's £34,000 black Mercedes 3.5 litre CLS coupe was hit by a falling tree on Friday last week.
"I was in the house and one of the neighbours ran across the road and said 'your car's buried under a tree'," Mr Quille, 71, told the Gazette.
"I just went out to see the lovely decoration that was on top of the car."
Retired Mr Quille, of Hughes Road, Hayes, had gone to the home of his daughter, Nicky Fullbrook, to do some decorating.
He said the most important thing was that nobody had been hurt in the incident.
The tree also damaged a Citroen van parked nearby, toppling right across the bonnet.
On Monday afternoon, Mr Quille had taken the car to be repaired and was awaiting an estimate of the cost.
He said the damage was extensive but not as bad as he had feared, although the boot lid, a door and parts of the bodywork had been dented and scratched.
The council said where there has been damage to someone's property by a tree, those affected should call the council's contact centre on 01895 556 000.
