A FORMER solicitor's clerk is seeking a soldier who at one time lived in Eastcote.

Ellen Barrow was contacted by Robert Weekes in about 1992 on a minor legal matter, and he left his military service book with her at solicitor's Desmond Wright as a form of identification. Now she wants to give it back.

"It must be about 20 years ago the gentleman came to us with a minor problem he had," said Ms Barrow, now retired but active in various community groups in the borough.

"He brought his service record with him. I can only think he brought it for identification."

The slim red volume, about the size of a hardback book, shows that Robert Weekes was born on December 23, 1964.

He enlisted in the Royal Green Jackets regiment - motto 'Swift and Bold' - on August 14, 1980, and a subsequent entry shows him stationed at Mooltan Barracks in Tidworth, Hampshire in 1985.

At one time, he lived in Hetherington Way, Eastcote, although enquiries to the address have turned up nothing.

Ms Barrow, 70, believes Mr Weekes was living in Hillingdon at the time he dropped into the offices in Uxbridge Road.

Mr Wright the solicitor died about 10 years ago and the business was wound up.

As someone who did the initial client work before passing cases to the solicitors, Ms Barrow often worked from home because she had a young daughter.

Ms Barrow found the document in a box full of old letters when she moved to Windsor Street, Hillingdon, where she lives today. She stressed Mr Weekes was not in any trouble when he sought legal advice.

An approach to the Green Jackets' headquarters brought the suggestion Ms Barrow send the document to them. She declined.

"I want to make sure it gets to him," she said. "I would want proof that he was who he says he was, then I would be happy to give it to him.

"It's just the right thing to do."
