Warrender flies a flag for the Olympics
THE Olympic spirit was much in evidence in Ruislip Manor.
Staff and parents of pupils at Warrender School, in Old Hatch Manor, accompanied 250 children on a parade through the High Street on Monday last week, waving several flags, including Great Britain, Ethiopia, the Olympic rings, and their very own Olympic torch.
Headteacher Paul Lake said: "Thanks to support from the local chamber of commerce, lots of shopkeepers came out to cheer us on. We even got encouraging blasts on the horn from some of the traffic that went past.
"Back in the school playground, we all sang the Olympic song, On a Rainbow, and then showed the parents how to do the Mascot Dance.
"The rest of the morning was dedicated to a whole-school sports event, involving all our children aged from three to 11.
"We were ably supported in this by Junior Sports Leaders from Bishop Ramsey Church of England School, our local secondary school."
At the end of an exhausting morning of sport, the parents joined the staff and children for a picnic lunch on the field.
In the afternoon, the children went into mixed-age classes and worked together to produce a range of foods from different cultures for a large Olympic feast at the end of the day.
Mr Lake added: "It was a great day, enabling us to celebrate London 2012 by participating in sport, celebrating a range of cultures and connecting with both our own families and the wider local community."
